I first heard this song when I was 17 years old in 1996. My home was broken, my family was dysfunctional and chaotic and I thought about taking my own life. Then I started hearing 2Pac. Understand, I had listened to "I Get Around" and a few other tracks...but this was DIFFERENT. Even while "Brenda's Got A Baby" had a message, it was still from the outside looking in. "So Many Tears" felt like the first time I connected with Pac because it was similar in the way I felt. I had seen friends die, literally. I was almost shot and killed at 11 years old because an older friend I looked up to got caught up in selling drugs and was murdered in a botched robbery. All those elements of pain and self loathing and sadness and just the feeling that you're not meant to be around very long...I felt all of it. That's how I became a fan. And his music, I've always said Pac wasn't the rapper you'd make a class in the science of rap about. He wasn't Rakim or Nas lyrically. He didn't have the best flow. But NO ONE before or since made you feel exactly what they were feeling as an MC more than Pac did. He was the pathos, the emotion, the soul of rap. The reason so many people still mourn him is because he made you feel like you understood him in his music because he was so open with where he was coming from. So all of the contradictions, you saw them all. And even if you didn't agree with everything, you could respect him being honest about what he was thinking. His loss all these years later still sucks because no one has filled that void. Even guys like Kendrick and Chance the Rapper...as GREAT as they are, it's just not the same emotionally. I turned 40 earlier this year and now I'm sharing his music with my own son because Pac helped me stick around. And that's part of his legacy...he resonated with so many people in a way celebrities/musicians/etc couldn't possibly anymore.

I bought this album when it came out I was a teenager and my dad actually liked Tupac he enjoyed his music in a time (90s) when parents didn’t like their kids listening to certain Hip Hop (yes I say hip hop) artists He said “That guy speaks about a lot of real things and he’s a great story teller” I’m so glad I was around when Tupac was alive making great music that still stands the test of time in my opinion they don’t make them like that anymore ♥️
